Welcome back to this weekly review of Louisville Sports! Let's jump right into it!
Women's Tennis
The Cardinals have been competing in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. On the first day, 2 Cardinals advanced in singles matches: Rhea Verma and Chelsea Sawyer. Unfortunately, they both dropped their next matches. Throughout the next few days, the doubles team of Verma and Andrea Di Palma made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing their semi-final match. Congratulations to the Cards for a strong showing!
This Week: Friday, October 29-Sunday, October 31st The Cards will be hosting the Cardinal Invitational.
#7/#13 Swimming and Diving
The Cardinals traveled to take on #17/#7 Tennessee this past week. The men fell by a score of 158-142. They were led by wins from Murilo Sartori (200 free, 100 free, and 400 free relay), Nicolas Albiero (200 fly, 200 back, and 400 free relay), and Haridi Sameh (50 free and 400 free relay). The women fell by a score of 176-107, and were paced by a win from Arina Openysheva in the 100 freestyle.

Men's Basketball
The first exhibition game of the season will take place on Friday, October 29th Vs Kentucky State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM, and it will be shown on ACC Network Xtra.
Men's Soccer (10-5)
The Cards had 2 games this past week. In the first game, the Cards unfortunately lost against Oakland. The Cards lone goal was scored by Bryce LeBel in the 43rd minute.
In the 2nd game, the Cards had their final home game of the season, facing off against the Wolfpack of NC State. The Cards came away with their 10th win of the season, winning 2-1 on the back of goals from Pedro Fonseca in the 37th minute and Aboubacar Camara in the 72nd minute.

Women's Soccer (7-6-2)
2 games for the Cards in the last week. In the first game, the Cards faced an extremely tough opponent as they traveled to take on the #2 ranked team in the country, Virginia. The Cards couldn't come away with the win however, losing 4-1. The lone goal for Louisville was scored by Julia Simon in the 70th minute.
The 2nd game saw the Cards have their road finale, traveling to Clemson looking to snap a 4-game losing streak. The Cards managed to get the 1-1 draw after double overtime, with the lone goal coming from Ravin Alexander in the 45th minute.
This Week: Final game of the regular season! Thursday, October 28th Vs #6 Duke (5 PM, ACC Network)
#4 Field Hockey (15-2)
The Cards had 2 games on the road this past week (as part of a 5-game road trip). They first traveled to Chapel Hill to take on the #10 ranked Tar Heels of North Carolina. The Cards pulled through to take the game 3-2 in overtime! Goals were scored by Aimee Plumb in the 46th minute, Mattie Tabor in the 53rd minute, and the game-winner in the 69th minute by Plumb again!
In the last game of their road trip, and the penultimate game of the regular season for Louisville, they traveled to take on the 25th-ranked team in the country, James Madison. A defensive battle throughout, the Cards ended up winning 1-0 in overtime, with the game-winning goal coming from once again, Aimee Plumb!
This Week: The finale of the regular season! Friday, October 29th Vs #6 Syracuse (Senior Day, 3 PM)
#2 Volleyball (20-0)
2 games in the past week for this squad, one of the absolute best in the country! First, they took on the Virginia Cavaliers. The end result? Yet another sweep for the Cards! Louisville took this one 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16). They were led by 9 kills a piece from Amaya Tillman and Anna DeBeer, 1 ace a piece from Tori Dilfer, Ceci Rush, and DeBeer, 4 blocks a piece from Anna Stevenson and Tillman, 30 assists from Dilfer, and 6 digs by Elena Scott.
In the 2nd game, the Cards hosted #4 ranked Pittsburgh, in what was sure to be a great match. It certainly lived up to the expectations, as it went all the way to 5 sets, with the Cards pulling out the 3-2 win (19-25, 25-20, 27-25, 22-25, 15-13). The Cards were led by 17 kills a piece from Claire Chaussee and DeBeer, 2 aces a piece from Stevenson and Ayden Bartlett, 8 blocks by Tillman, 57 assists from Dilfer, and 14 digs from Scott.
This Week: Sunday, October 31st At Duke (1 PM)
Football (4-3)
The Cards hosted Boston College this past week, looking for a win following back-to-back heartbreaking defeats at the hands of Wake Forest and Virginia. Although there were definitely some not-so-great points in the game, the Cards actually put together 4 quarters of solid play, translating to a 28-14 victory for the Cards' 4th victory on the season. They are just 2 victories shy of bowl eligibility.
The Cards were led by stellar play from Malik Cunningham (who is quickly becoming one of my personal favorite QBs to ever play for UofL), who completed 9-17 passes with no TDs and 2 interceptions. He ran 16 times for 133 yards (putting him over 2,000 career rushing yards) and 3 TDs. The Cards were also led on offense by Trevion Cooley (13 rushes for 112 yards) and Jalen Mitchell (11 rushes for 67 yards and 1 TD). The Cards were led on defense by Dorian Jones (.5 sacks), YaYa Diaby (.5 sacks), Yasir Abdullah (1 sack), Ryheem Craig (1 sack), Mason Reiger (1 forced fumble), CJ Avery (1 fumble recovery), Josh Minkins (1 interception), and Trey Franklin (1 interception).
This Week: Saturday, October 30th At NC State (7:30 PM, ACC Network)
